‘Major turnaround’ in business leaders’ hopes
for the economy
OTTAWA — A “major turnaround” in business leaders’
expectations for the future of the Canadian economy has
helped push an index of business confidence higher for the
second straight quarter.The Conference Board of Canada’s
business confidence index, released Thursday, sits at 101.8
for the first quarter of 2012, up 2.5 points over the fourth
quarter of 2011 — where a reading of 99.3 was a 6.6-point
increase over the third quarter. The two increases follow

OTTAWA – Canada’s manufacturing sales blew past expectations to
grow 1.9% in March from February as shipments of petroleum and
coal products jumped to their highest level in more than 3-1/2
